Practical perspectives, a passion for social services and a commitment to Mental Health, focusing on Tech Professionals
Before entering social work, I was a computer professional for twenty years. I was a software developer, software quality assurance engineer for a drug company, and computer science instructor and professor. The practical perspectives of an engineer are core to how I look at the world.
My passion for social service started when I was 16 years old. I sat with people in a local hospital who had no one to visit them. During my computer career, I volunteered in social services. I found this volunteering very meaningful. When I was facing hand issues that ended my ability to work as a computer professional, I decided to make helping people my new career.
My commitment to mental health is more than just working with clients. I worked with my state senator’s office to get a bill passed so psychiatric service dogs have access rights while they are being trained. I also have been involved with Multnomah County’s Mental Health and Substance Abuse Advisory Council to help the County improve the mental health services it offers.

“The whole you, not just the problem, walks through my door.”
